Randevon Patrick
Born in St. Thomas Jamaica, the home of many of Jamaica’s cultural artistes such as Morgan’s Heritage and Bushman, C-Sharp’s drummer , Randy as he is called, was born on September 3rd 1980 and grew up in the community of Lyssons. Randy discovered his talent for playing music at the age of six when he would make guitars from sardine cans, board and fishing lines. As he got older he learned to play the bass, which he played at church but later on committed to playing the drum which he felt most comfortable with. Graduating from the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts in 2001, Randy started teaching at the Seaforth High School but soon became disenchanted , so when the position later opened up for a drummer in the C-Sharp band he quickly jumped at the opportunity to play with them. He relinquished his position at Seaforth High School to play music full time and hasn’t looked back since. Growing up in the parish that he did, Randy had many influences but some more significant than others. He cites Morgan’s Heritage, Third World, the Barrett Brothers Of Bob Marley and the Wailers; Desi Jones of the “School Band”; Mark Barrett from Jimmy Cliff’s band; Dave Weckle and Delion Whyte as the most significant influences in his musical career. Dubbed “Sleepy” (a reference to the seven dwarves) by his band mates for his penchant to sleep and his short stature (the shortest member of the band) Randy is reserved and almost always “relaxed”. To date Randy has collaborated with numerous artistes such as Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica, Abijah, Rita Marley, The I-Threes, The Jays and Chakademus and Pliers. He has also toured numerous Caribbean and European locations and as well as Ghana, West Africa. When asked where he sees himself in the future he responds: “Doing the same thing that I am doing now: playing music all over the world, spreading the message of love and peace to all people, irrespective of race, colour or creed. As Bob would say, ‘money can come after’.”
